  • Disease Concept of Addiction: Includes the physical impact of addiction, the latest brain research on addiction and recovery, and strategies for wellness.
  • Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors: Incorporates evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral strategies to equip participants with the skills they need to develop and maintain recovery.
  • Healthy Relationships: Participants explore interpersonal effectiveness, dynamics of family functioning, codependence, and how to create fulfilling social and intimate relationships.
  • Recovery Maintenance: Participants learn about the dynamics of relapse including triggers and risk factors, tools for stress management, and identification of strengths and barriers in recovery.
  • Living a Balanced Lifestyle: Participants engage in innovative holistic activities, which explore values, goals, mindfulness and spirituality in order to promote a balanced wellness lifestyle.

In addition to individual and group therapy, residents attend daily 12-step meetings with members of the local recovery community, which include members of the David Lawrence Centers Alumni Association.

      How do I get admitted into the Crossroads Residential Program?

      • Contact a member of the Crossroads Team at 239-354-1428 to begin the process of admission to Crossroads.

      I’m pregnant. Can I come to Crossroads?

      • Crossroads offers enhanced treatment services for eligible pregnant or postpartum women. Contact a member of our Crossroads admission team at 239-354-1428 to review your eligibility for participation in our programs.

      Will my insurance cover treatment?

      • Our dynamic and skillful support and clinical staff will work with your insurance company to determine eligibility and benefits. However, even with insurance coverage, you may still be responsible for your deductible, co-pay and/or co-insurance and you will be asked for a portion of those fees at the time of admission.

      I don’t have insurance. How much does treatment cost?

      • For those individuals who want to engage in treatment but do not have insurance David Lawrence Centers offers a sliding fee scale. The cost of your treatment will be determined by household income. You may also be asked to pay for a portion of your program cost at the time of admission.

      Will I see a psychiatrist while I’m in Crossroads?

      • While in residential treatment, you will be working closely with a multidisciplinary treatment team to review your mental health needs. The clinical team will make arrangements for you to see a member of our psychiatric team if recommended as part of your treatment.

      How long will my stay be?

      • Crossroads Residential program at David Lawrence Centers is a short-term residential program with individualized lengths of stay. The program is designed to meet the unique needs of each individual based on severity of illness and response to treatment. Most clients participate in residential treatment from 14-30 days.

      Are there medication-assisted treatment options in Crossroads (e.g., naltrexone, Vivitrol, etc.)?

      • While in the program, certain medication-assisted treatment options may be reviewed with you to evaluate whether a medication-assisted recovery option might benefit you.

      What is the daily structure?

      • Each day is carefully structured from approximately 7am until 10pm. There are groups scheduled throughout the day as well as structured therapeutic activities. There is also yoga, equine-facilitated therapy (for those who qualify), pet therapy, structured recreation and fitness time, including access to a swimming pool. Each evening, Crossroads residents attend a 12-step meeting, usually off-campus.

      Are you a “12-step” program?

      • We provide and promote 12-step participation due to the rates of success reported by individuals who utilize a 12-step program. Crossroads residents attend at least one 12-step meeting daily while in treatment. Residents are also introduced to alternative groups and strategies for maintaining abstinence.

      Can I smoke or use tobacco products while in treatment? What about electronic or vapor cigarettes?

      • The David Lawrence Centers is a tobacco-free campus and Crossroads is a tobacco-free program. While tobacco use is not permitted while in treatment, we do offer nicotine cessation support services. Nicotine replacement options are available. Some clients may qualify for complimentary nicotine patches and all clients are welcome to bring in patches and nicotine lozenges. Nicotine gum is not permitted. We do not store your tobacco products or lighters while you are in Crossroads.
      • Electronic or vapor cigarettes are not permitted.

      Will I be able to take my medications while I am in treatment?

      • Prior to your admission, the treatment team will review your medications with you to establish which medications you will be taking while at Crossroads. You will need to bring a 30-day supply of all medications, including your prescription and over-the-counter medications. Over-the-counter medications must be brought in a new, unopened container. Some medications, such as controlled substances including Xanax, narcotics or other sedatives/hypnotics (e.g., Ambien, Lunesta) are not appropriate for use in the Crossroads program and the nurse will review these with you. All medication is kept in the nurse’s office and not in client rooms.

      Can my family visit me while I am in treatment?

      • There is visitation for approved family and/or supportive friends from 1:30pm-3:30pm every Sunday. There is no waiting period before you can receive visitors during this time.
      • For clients with children under the age of 3, additional visitation time during the week may be approved on a case-by-case basis to promote healthy development of your young child.

      How often can I contact my family? Can I use my cell phone?

      • Cell phone use is not permitted in treatment. Your cell phone will be stored in a secured and locked location. On your first day in treatment, you can make a phone call from our phone to let someone know that you have arrived safely and to request any necessary items. For the next three days, your phone calls are limited to urgent medical or legal calls, or other needs approved by the clinical team. This waiting period provides an opportunity for you to focus on engaging in the treatment process. After 72 hours in treatment, you will have 10 minutes of personal phone time daily. You are also encouraged to make a phone call to your 12-step sponsor and you are provided additional phone time to do so.

      Can I send and receive mail?

      • Yes, you can send and receive mail while in the Crossroads Residential Program.

      What should I bring?

      Can I bring my iPod (or iPad, Kindle, laptop, etc.)? Can I bring in movies? What else do I need to bring?

      • While in treatment you will not have access to personal entertainment devices such as iPods, iPads or laptops. There is limited time for viewing recreational movies. If a client wants to bring in a particular movie to view with the group, it can be submitted to staff for review. A list of what to bring to Crossroads can be found at here.

      What are the living accommodations like?

      • Crossroads Residential Program can accommodate up to 18 adults. There are four comfortably appointed, single-sex rooms each containing four beds. A fifth room with two beds is used in certain circumstances designated by Crossroads staff.

      What is the meal plan?

      • Proper nutrition is an important aspect of treatment, recovery and wellness. Individual meals are selected by clients from a daily menu, prepared in our kitchen and served family style. Specific dietary needs can be accommodated through our nutritional services department which includes a registered dietician who is also a licensed social worker. Clients or visitors are not permitted to bring outside food or drink into the facility.

      What is the appropriate attire for treatment?

      • Clients are asked to wear comfortable, appropriate clothing to groups and meetings. Appropriate attire includes jeans, casual slacks, sport shirts, appropriate-length shorts. Dress should be casual and in good taste. A detailed list of what to bring to Crossroads can be found at here.
